Hearing
Conservation

Noise-induced hearing loss is permanent, painless, and almost entirely preventable, which is why it is so easily ignored. Run across three sites in June 2026, this campaign moved past "wear your earplugs" to the part that actually decides whether protection works: fitting it correctly, maintaining it, and choosing the right rating for the noise zone you are standing in.

What We Covered

Programme Overview

It Sounded Fine Until It Wasn’t: the fundamentals of hearing conservation, recognising hidden noise hazards, and hands-on exploration of which approved protection belongs where

“On” Doesn’t Mean Working: proper earplug fitting, because protection depends on technique rather than simply wearing the device; participants practised achieving a proper seal and verifying the fit

Protect Your Protectors: maintaining hearing PPE and spotting wear before protection is compromised, alongside an immersive simulator that lets participants hear what hearing loss actually sounds like

NRR: More Than Just a Number, how to read Noise Reduction Ratings and apply them in the field, weighing effective attenuation against the number on the label

Campaign in Action

Real sessions from the campaign, showing what participants actually did on the day.

Highlight 01

Booth one in progress: what actually counts as approved hearing protection on a data hall floor, and the three types of hearing loss behind the rule.

Highlight 02

The NRR booth, where the lab-tested number meets reality, genset peak against server hall peak, and what each demands of the protector you are wearing.

Highlight 03

Working through the derating maths together: subtract for fit, for wear, for movement, and the headline rating starts looking very different.

"The simulator was the part that stayed with me. Reading about hearing loss is one thing; hearing it for yourself is another entirely."
